The US Senate Commerce Committee has ordered the CEOs of some of America's biggest tech companies to testify at a Congressional hearing. These include Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, Google's Sundar Pichai and Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg.
The committee issued subpoenas to appear after the CEOs did not commit to earlier invitations. The committee wants to hear their opinion on proposals to reform Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, a key piece of internet legislation that protects web portals from liability for user-generated content. Republican Senators leading the committee aim to hold the hearing prior to national elections in the US on 03 November.
This would be the second appearance in Congress this year for the Google and Facebook CEOs, after they earlier testified in July at the House Judiciary Committee's antitrust sub-committee on digital market issues.
