SK Telecom tests LTE-A 5-Band CA on commercial network

South Korean operator SK Telecom has successfully tested LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) five-band carrier aggregation (CA) on its commercial network. SK Telecom's bandwidth resources currently include 10MHz bandwidth in the 800MHz band, 20MHz bandwidth in the 1.8GHz band, 10MHz bandwidth in the 2.1GHz band, 10MHz + 20 MHz bandwidths in the 2.6 Ghz band.

Kazakhtelecom, KT agree wide-ranging cooperation

Kazakhstan national operator Kazakhtelecom has signed a memorandum of cooperation with KT Corporation in the field of ICT business. The partnership will focus on next-generation technology for fixed and mobile services, carrying out broadband projects, cloud service provision, using M2M and Big Data technologies, IPTV development, efficient call centres and other issues.

SK Telecom to launch LTE-A Pro 500 Mbps service in June

South Korean mobile operator SK Telecom plans to launch a service dubbed 'LTE-A Pro' in June. Subscribers will have access to speeds of up to 500 Mbps. SK Telecom plans to provide LTE speeds of up to 1 Gbps nationwide by 2019, The Korea Times reports, citing SK Telecom's infrastructure strategy division senior VP Choi Seung-won. "Through this month's frequency auction, we have established a basis to provide the nation's only five-band carrier aggregation (CA) service," he said.

Govt approves SK, KT, Uplus' bids for spectrum tender

The South Korean government has approved bids by mobile operators SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus to secure new bandwidth, Yonhap news agency reports, citing a statement from the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning. SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus will compete for five blocks in the 700 MHz, 1.8 GHz, 2.1 GHz and 2.6 GHz bands. In total, the government is offering 140 MHz of spectrum, estimated to be worth at least KRW 2.5 trillion (approximate USD 2.2 billion).

SK, KT, Uplus to launch unified app store with Naver

Korean mobile carriers SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus will partner domestic ISP Naver to launch a unified app store, Yonhap news agency reports, citing company officials. SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus already have a combined app retail channel dubbed 'One Store'. An SK Telecom subsidiary, which manages One Store, has now agreed with Naver to consolidate its app services. The new app market is scheduled for official launch in June, using the single brand One Store.
