Softbank owns Nvidia stake worth USD 4 bln - report

SoftBank owns USD 4 billion worth of Nvidia, with a stake of just under 5 percent,  the minimum that would require a regulatory disclosure in the US, Bloomberg reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. Softbank, which recently closed it new Vision Fund, said at the time that it owned an unspecified amount of Nvidia stock. A share just under 5 percent would make Softbank the fourth-largest shareholder in Nvidia.

In announcing the Vision Fund’s capital commitments, SoftBank said the fund will have the right to acquire several investments including its Nvidia stake.

A stake in Nvidia fits with SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son’s plans to become the biggest investor in technology over the next decade, with an eye on emerging trends such as artificial intelligence. SoftBank declined to comment on the matter.
