
Sony Mobile Communications has announced the Xperia M2 Aqua LTE smartphone, set for release this autumn in markets including Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Europe. The Xperia M2 Aqua's IP65/68 rating allows users to take pictures and video in up to 1.5 meters of fresh water using its 8 MP camera. Based on the Xperia M2 device, it is the first Sony mid-priced phone to feature waterproof technology.
It offers a 4.8-in qHD display, Android 4.4, Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with quad-core 1.2GHz CPUs, a 2300 mAh battery and Sony camera technologies such as Exmore RS for mobile image sensor, HDR imaging and SteadyShot for video. It will come pre-loaded with Walkman and Movie applications, offering access to Sony's Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited service. The Xperia M2 Aqua will also use NFC technology for one-touch connectivity with other Sony devices, including headsets, speakers, home audio equipment and TVs. The new smartphone will come in black and white versions.
