Sony Ericsson sees supply chain disruptions from Japan

Sony Ericsson expects the disruption to components businesses in Japan to impact its business. In an update on the effect of the earthquake on its activities, the handset maker said none of its around 1,100 employees in Tokyo have been injured and there was no major damage to its offices. However, as the affected area in northern Japan supplies a large portion of the world's electronics industry with components, the current situation will impact Sony Ericsson's business. As part of its business continuity plan, the company is in contact with all key suppliers in the region and is identifying the possible relocation of certain component manufacturing and looking at secondary sources of supply. While the full impact of the current situation will take additional time to assess, Sony Ericsson said it does anticipate disruption to its supply chain operations.
