SpaceX to axe workforce by 10 percent
Elon Musk’s Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) will reduce its workforce by about 10 percent, Reuters reports. SpaceX currently has more than 6,000 employees, it said on Friday.  "To continue delivering for our customers and to succeed in developing interplanetary spacecraft and a global space-based Internet, SpaceX must become a leaner company", SpaceX said in a statement to AFP.

"Either of these developments, even when attempted separately, have bankrupted other organizations," the company said. "This means we must part ways with some talented and hardworking members of our team”, the company added. The workforce reduction is "only due to the extraordinarily difficult challenges ahead", SpaceX also said.

According to an email sent to employees on 11 January, the company is offering those affected a minimum of 8 weeks' pay and other benefits, including career coaching and resume assistance, the Los Angeles Times reports.
