Spain announces EUR 20 mln grants for 5G pilots

Spain's ICT development agency Red.es has launched a call for EUR 20 million in public funds for two 5G pilot projects co-financed by the EU's regional development programme Feder. In a statement confirming a recent report, Red.es said the projects should be focused on experimenting with the different potentialities of 5G and promoting the development of ecosystems among operators, technology providers and other agents.

Interested parties have until 14 December to submit their project ideas for which spectrum in the 3.4-3.8 GHz and 26 GHz bands will be made available.

Spain grants EUR 32 mln funding to 'smart building' projects

Spain's ICT development agency Red.es has announced that a total of EUR 32.1 million of public funds has been awarded to support 8 'smart building' projects in 5 autonomous communities. The funds will be made available to pilot projects in Andalucia, Valencia, Madrid, Catalonia and Galicia and will be for use on schemes to connect at least 150 buildings with IoT technology located in cities of over 200,000 inhabitants.

Telefonica, Vodafone receive first 5G pilot subsidies - report

Spain's ICT development agency Red.es has awarded EUR 20 million in public funds to two 5G project proposals submitted by Telefonica and Vodafone, according to unnamed sources cited by business daily Expansion. The operators will be given EUR 10 million each to develop their projects in the regions of Galicia, where Telefonica will be collaborating with Ericsson and Nokia as network suppliers, and Andalucia, where Vodafone intends to work with Huawei.

Spain's ICT development agency Red.es announced that it will be presenting a total of 94 Spanish startup ventures across two institutional stands at MWC19 in Barcelona. The first will feature 56 companies from several of Spain's autonomous communities, including 18 from Catalonia, 16 from Madrid, 8 from Galicia, 5 from Andalucia, 3 from Valencia, 2 from Extremadura, 2 from the Basque Country and 1 each from Aragon and Castilla-La Mancha.

Spain's industry ministry has announced that a total of 24 projects have been selected to receive EUR 68.3 million in funds in its latest "Smart Tourism Destinations" tender. The ministry said the projects come from 9 autonomous communities, with ICT development agency Red.es responsible for distributing the funds to the selected initiatives in Andalucia, Aragon, Canary Islands, Catalonia, Valencia, Extremadura, Galicia, the Balearic Islands and the Basque Country.

Spain to set aside grants for new DTT migration

The Spanish government is planning to fund the country's forthcoming DTT migration with grants to affected individuals and TV operators, reports El Economista, citing State Secretary for Digital Advancement, Francisco Polo. Spain to offer EUR 20 mln funding for 5G pilots

The Spanish government is set to offer EUR 20 million in funding for 5G pilot projects and will launch the corresponding call by the end of the month, reports EFE, citing Spain's director of telecommunications and information technologies Roberto Sanchez. The grants will help operators set up trial 5G connections after the government raised around EUR 438 million in its recent auction of 200 MHz of spectrum in the 3.6-3.8 GHz band for 5G use.

Cierco named new director of Spanish ICT agency Red.es

Spain's economic and business ministry has announced the appointment of David Cierco as the new director of the country's internet and ICT development agency Red.es. Cierco was previously development director for the information society at the ministry of industry, tourism and commerce from 2006 to 2010 and before that new technologies advisor to the minister of tourism and commerce from 2004 to 2006, among others positions.
