Sprint files lawsuit against AT&T takeover of T-Mobile

Sprint Nextel filed a lawsuit against AT&T's proposed takeover of T-Mobile USA. The lawsuit filed in federal court in the District of Columbia seeks to block the proposed acquisition as a violation of antitrust law, focusing on the "competitive and consumer harms" which would result from the deal, Sprint said. The operator expects the merger of the two mobile carriers would harm consumers by causing higher prices and less innovation, entrench the duopoly control of AT&T and Verizon, and harm Sprint and the other independent wireless carriers. Sprint has opposed the deal from the start and earlier filed a complaint with the FCC about the takeover. AT&T and T-Mobile already face a lawsuit from the US Department of Justice, which is seeking to block the acquisition under antitrust law.
