The current minimum speed offered is 10/1 Mbps. The increase in internet speed would be part of a wider reform of the universal service regulation, as called for by parliament and the cantons, to ensure national coverage of fast broadband.

A revision of the Ordinance on Telecommunications Services is necessary to change the rules on universal telecommunications services. These are currently provided by Swisscom, which has also had its concession extended by one year while the reform is completed.
