Swisscom to cut 700 jobs, close six call centres

Swisscom has confirmed plans to reduce the number of call centres for customers from 14 to 8 by end-2016. Workers at sites in Zurich, Berne, Basel, Geneva, Lucerne and Rapperswil will be concentrated at the remaining eight sites in Lausanne, Neuenburg, Biel, Olten, Sion, St. Gallen, Chur and Bellinzona. The workforce at the Olten, St. Gallen and Biel sites will increase by more than half in some cases. The cuts were announced as part of its annual statement for 2015.

Swisscom also plans to create up to 500 jobs in growth areas in Switzerland in the current year. However, it will also cut the workforce in other areas by several hundred posts, mainly in supporting units. It estimates that around 700 employees will be affected by the cuts and that the supporting Social Plan will result in a one-off cost of CHF 70 million. Overall, Swisscom expects its total workforce in Switzerland to be slightly lower at end-2016 than at end-2015.

Swisscom tackles specialist shortage with IT training

Swisscom said it hired about half of the 124 ICT apprentices who graduated from its training programme at the end of July. Of these, 32 were IT specialists and 24 mediamatics technicians. Swisscom therefore trains a significant proportion of its specialists itself and helps provide up-and-coming talent for this sector.

Swisscom announced it added the Fairphone 2 to its portfolio. The smartphone is manufactured in line with fair trade and sustainability principles. Customers can pre-order the handset with all current Swisscom subscriptions. Swisscom, unions reach salary increase agreement

Swisscom and social partners syndicom and transfair have agreed individual salary increases of 0.4 percent for 2016 and 0.6 percent for 2017. Swisscom opens Valais Business Park in Sion

Swisscom has announced plans to open its new Sion Business Park. The construction works were completed at the end of last year and its employees will move in to the building on Route de la Piscine from 26 February. It offers modern workstations for more than 500 staff who will be coming from various sites in Sion and Sierre. Swisscom 2015 net revenue little changed at CHF 11.6 bln

Swisscom released its annual statement reporting that net revenue fell by CHF 25 million or 0.2 percent year-on-year to CHF 11.678 billion in 2015. Adjusted for company acquisitions and disposals and on the basis of constant exchange rates, revenue increased by CHF 83 million (0.7%), of which CHF 57 million was attributable to the Swiss core business.

Swisscom and Huawei strengthen partnership
