Switzerland keeps top spot in Netflix speed index, Telefonica improves most

Switzerland remained the fastest country for receiving Netflix in July, with an average speed delivered by local ISPs of 4.28 Mbps, while Belgian ISPs moved into a clear second place with 4.09 Mbps. Luxembourg and the Netherlands were tied for third place, with an average speed of 3.99 Mbps, according to the latest Netflix Speed Index.

Spain's Telefonica showed the biggest improvement in speed compared to June, rising to 3.01 Mbps from 2.36 Mbps. However, the incumbent remained in eighth place in Spain, well behind market leader Euskaltel with an average 3.86 Mbps. India's Spectranet also showed improvement in June, rising to 3.19 Mbps from 2.69 Mbps the month prior and reclaiming the No. 1 spot in India. 

Eleven new countries were added to the index this month, with Romania debuting as the fastest in sixth place worldwide. Iceland came tenth, Hungary 22nd, Turkey 26th, Poland 30th, Israel 35th, Kuwait 37th, Saudi Arabia 39th, Greece 42nd, South Africa 54th and Bolivia 57th. In total Netflix tracks 59 countries in the speed index.

Jazztel, Masmovil, Telecable and Telefonica followed with average speeds of 3.64Mbps, 3.64Mbps, 3.60Mbps, 3.58Mbps and 2.65Mbps respectively.

Nederland op derde plaats in snelheidsindex Netflix

Een jaar geleden, in juli 2016, stond Nederland op een derde positie met 3,85 Mbps, direct onder België met 3,86 Mbps. België staat ook in juli 2017 nog op een tweede plaats, met een gemiddelde geboden snelheid van 4,09 Mbps.

Altibox tops Netflix ISP Index for Norway for 2 years straight

Norwegian fibre network operator Altibox said it has remained at the top of the Netflix monthly internet speed index continually for two years now. The Lyse subsidiary said that the US streaming service now accounts for just over 20 percent of its internet traffic. In its June ISP rankings, Netflix gave an average download speed for Altibox of 4.01 Mbps, down from 4.07 Mbps in May.

Mexico's TotalPlay tops Netflix's LatAm speed ranking

Mexico's Totalplay provided the fastest average residential broadband connection to Netflix in Latin America last month, according to the video streaming company's latest ISP speed index. The operator topped the June ranking with an average speed of 3.84 Mbps, followed by Chile's GTD and Mexico's Axtel with 3.81 Mbps and 3.61 Mbps respectively. Vodafone Italia tops Netflix speed index

Vodafone Italia has overtaken Fastweb as the leading ISP on the latest speed index published by Netflix, marking a year since the US company launched its video streaming service in Italy. Vodafone topped the October ranking with an average prime-time Netflix streaming speed of 3.46 Mbps, up from 3.43 Mbps in September, followed by Fastweb with 3.41 Mbps, Telecom Italia with 3.33 Mbps, Wind with 3.18 Mbps and Tiscali with 3.18 Mbps.

Portugal Telecom's Meo has taken over the first place in the Netflix ISP Index in Portugal for the month of September 2016. It achieved an average speed of 3.52 Mbps, compared with 3.20 Mbps the previous month.

Luxembourg joins top 3 countries in Netflix speed index

Luxembourg surpassed the Netherlands to join the top three countries in the Netflix Speed Index for August. Luxembourg's average speed for delivering Netflix rose to 3.86 Mbps, while the Netherlands fell to 3.84 Mbps. Switzerland remained the fastest country, with an average 3.99 Mbps, followed by Belgium at 3.94 Mbps.
