T-Mobile revamps prepaid offer as Metro by T-Mobile, adds new services

T-Mobile US is rebranding its prepaid provider MetroPCS as Metro by T-Mobile. The operator also announced new unlimited plans for Metro, including extra services Amazon Prime and Google One.

In addition to the 2 GB and 10 GB data plans offer by Metro, T-Mobile is introducing two plans with unlimited LTE data, calls and SMS. T-Mobile said the Metro customers may be subject to data speed restrictions more than T-Mobile brand customers in congested areas. However, throttling only occurs after using more than 35 GB per month and when in busy areas. To help control data congestion, video is limited to 480p.

The new unlimited plans cost USD 50 or USD 60 per month including all taxes and fees and come with respectively 5 and 15 GB of hotspot data. Both include the new Google One storage and support service at no extra change, and the top plan also comes with Amazon Prime. The prices are respectively USD 80 and USD 90 for two lines, and USD 140 and USD 150 for four lines.

T-Mobile is launching a new media campaign with the tagline 'That's Genius' to promote the change in brand. It will highlight the benefits of Metro as a prepaid brand, such as nationwide network coverage, a wide range of phones at all price points and a national retail network with more than 10,000 outlets.
