TalkTalk Telecom Group announced that Charles Bligh will step down from the board and as chief operating officer (COO) on 30 June. He will become CEO of the new independent company Infraco to be established by TalkTalk and Infracapital to deploy a full-fibre network to 3 million premises in mid-sized towns and cities across the UK.
Paul Reynolds, former CEO of Telecom New Zealand, has been appointed chairman of the new company. TalkTalk said it was making good progress on the third phase of its full-fibre trial in York, which will reach 54,000 premises when completed. It has also started trialling the use of Openreach ducts and poles to see if it can further reduce build costs. The new company and its shareholders have started detailed planning for future cities and will provide more information about city selection in due course.
