Tele2 announces departure of CEO Nilsson and replacement by Veon ex-COO Johnsen

Tele2 AB has announced the resignation of Anders Nilsson as president and CEO of Com Hem and Tele2 on 14 September. He will be replaced the next day by Kjell Morten Johnsen, previously COO of Veon and head of Telenor Europe. Nilsson said the six years in the role had been very intense and he has now concluded that it is time for him to take a break and focus on other things in life for a while

Nilsson had indicated to the board earlier this year that he was considering stepping down at some point in the future, provided a succession plan was in place. Chairwoman Carla Smits-Nusteling said the board regretted but respected his decision to leave and that his leadership had made it possible for Tele2 to transform itself in a short time and to deliver significant value to shareholders.

Smits-Nusteling said Johnsen’s experience as a leader in global telecommunications will be a great asset for Tele2. Johnsen himself said Tele2 has a history as a challenger and innovator and has undergone an impressive transformation over the last few years.

Tele2 proposes extraordinary dividend to September EGM

Tele2 AB has announced an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on 11 September, with voting in advance to prevent the risk of spreading Covid-19. The EGM will vote on payment of an extraordinary dividend and on a motion concerning the provision of Class B shares for this year's long-term employee incentive programme (LTI 2020). Shareholders at Tele2's AGM on 11 May did not approve the transfer of Class B shares to participants in LTI 2020.

Tele2 reinstates FY guidance and extraordinary dividend proposal as Q2 underlying EBITDAaL rises 4%

Tele2 said it is reinstating its 2020 guidance and its proposal to distribute an extraordinary dividend of SEK 3.50 per share as it declared that it had fared relatively well in a difficult second quarter for the telecoms sector and society as a whole. Revenue fell by 2 percent and underlying EBITDAaL rose by 4 percent. The operator said it now has 242,000 fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) customers and that it launched Sweden's first public 5G network during Q2.

Tele2 Sweden lets people over 55 book shop appointment in July to avoid coronavirus risk

Tele2 Sweden said it is running an appointment service for people in coronavirus risk groups wishing to visit its physical shops. It said the virus has made the ability to stay in touch remotely all the more important and there is rising demand for personal service, yet the need to stay at a safe distance has made this difficult for people such as the elderly. In July, people aged 55 to 85 can book a time slot with a sales assistance in one of its branches outside normal opening hours, free of charge.

Tele2 Sweden reaches 32% female workforce in 2019 vs 50-50 balance target for 2023

Tele2 said that efforts made in 2019 to achieve a balance of the sexes at Tele2 Sweden by 2023 resulted in a 63 percent female recruitment rate. Even so, after its integration with Com Hem last year, only 32 percent of the group's workers are women.

Tele2 offers Comhem streaming service free to mobile customers, with zero-rated data

Tele2 Sweden is offering access to its new subscription streaming service Comhem Play+ to its mobile subscribers. They receive free access for one year, as well as unlimited data for accessing the video service. The offer is also open to mobile customers under the Comviq brand.

Veon confirms chair Burns as new CEO

Veon has appointed Ursula Burns as CEO. Burns has worked as the chairman of the Veon management board since July 2017, acted as executive chairman since March 2017 and took up CEO duties already in March on an interim basis. During that time she has introduced a simplified corporate structure, including a leaner operating model along with an increased focus on emerging markets, Veon said.

Com Hem and Tele2 EGMs formally approve merger

Com Hem and Tele 2 each said that their respective Extraordinary General Meetings (EGMs) have approved motions to merge the two companies. Com Hem shareholders rejected a proposal from Martin Green for a probe into whether  members of Com Hem's board and management fulfil legislative and regulatory requirements and the demands that society's ethical values place on people in leadership roles. The merger is expected to be logged with the Swedish Companies Registration Office in the fourth quarter.

Tele2 to acquire Com Hem to form Sweden's second-largest operator

Tele2 Group and Com Hem Holding said they are merging to create Sweden's second largest mobile telephony and fixed broadband provider, as Tele2 seeks to focus on the Baltic Sea region after strategic moves elsewhere. Tele2 is absorbing the Swedish cable operator but Com Hem's CEO Anders Nilsson will take over as CEO of the enlarged Tele2 from Allison Kirkby.
