Tele2 Netherlands to launch 4G network in 2014

Tele2 Netherlands will delay the launch of 4G services "by a few quarters," a company spokesperson told Telecompaper, declining to give a more specific date. The launch had earlier been set for 2013, after the company won mobile spectrum in an auction in late 2012. The operator made a strategic decision to not be first-to-market but instead ensure good quality and user experience. The company is currently scoping out locations for the construction of a mobile network in the 800 MHz and 2.6 GHz bands. Tele2 NL has a fibre network and a functioning core network, but no radio network yet. During the presentation of its first quarter figures, the company said it expects to need around 1,000 base stations to cover 40 percent of the Dutch territory.
