Telefonica fined EUR 8.5 mln over Basque govt contract

Spain's communications regulator CNMC has fined Telefonica a total of EUR 8.5 million for breaches of its wholesale access commitments in a contract with the Basque local government. In January 2016, the Basque government awarded Telefonica part of the tender for the provision of telecommunications services to various public buildings. However, local broadband provider Euskaltel complained that Telefonica's offer could not be replicated by any rival operators in the business segment and the CNMC’s probe upheld Euskaltel’s claims.

Telefonica now has two months to file a contentious-administrative appeal before the National High Court against the decision.

Spain's communications regulator CNMC has launched a proceeding leading to a possible fine against Telefonica for possible discriminatory conduct in its wholesale maintenance obligations. Spain's CNMC to ensure rivals can replicate Telefonica's large-client offers

CNMC said a new methodology, which marks a first among European regulators, allows it to analyse offers tailor made for clients such as multinationals and universities. It was developed using individual studies of bespoke service agreements provided to large clients including one to the autonomous regional government of the Basque region, which led to a EUR 8.5 million fine for Telefonica.

Euskaltel to pay out EUR 27 mln additional dividend in July

Spanish regional operator Euskaltel has announced that it will pay out a supplementary dividend of EUR 26.9 million on 05 July. In a statement to Spanish market regulator CNMV, the company said it would pay a dividend of EUR 0.151 per share on its 2017 profits, having already paid out EUR 22.7 million on 01 February. Euskaltel said the total dividend paid out on its 2017 profit would be EUR 49.6 million, equivalent to 3.9 percent above the average share price for the final month of 2017.
