Telefonica Vivo confirms voluntary retirement programme
Brazilian operator Telefonica Vivo has confirmed it conducted a Voluntary Retirement Programme in February among its workforce in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, reports O Estado de Sao Paulo. In a statement sent to the press, the operator did not disclose the number of employees who joined the VRP. It said a reorganization was needed in order to simplify processes and create more synergies among activities in order to address the market challenges. The news comes shortly after the completion of the company's acquisition of GVT and a reshuffle of the top management at the Brazilian operator.

Oi cuts 1,070 jobs in April

Brazilian operator Oi is eliminating 1,070 company jobs in April, or 6 percent in the number of direct employees, in another stage of its reorganization plan started in the fourth quarter 2014 to simplify its structure, reports Reuters. GVT CEO to take over as head of Telefonica Brasil

Telefonica Brasil has announced that Antonio Carlos Valente is leaving the presidency of the group after almost eight years. Amos Genish is taking over in his place. He is current president of GVT, a company recently acquired by the Spanish operator. Valente will continue at the company as chairman of the board of directors. The change will take place at the end of the first half of the year, when the merger of GVT with Telefonica is completed.

Brazil's Administrative Council for Economic Defence (Cade) has approved, with restrictions, Telefonica's acquisition of Brazilian broadband and pay-TV provider GVT.
