Telegram attracts USD 850 mln under 2nd round of ICO

Russian messenger Telegram has attracted USD 850 million in investments during the second round of its ICO, according to a filing at the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Telegram Group and Ton Issuer are acting as organizers of the ICO.

About 94 investors participated in the ICO launched on 14 March, with the minimum sum of the investment at USD 1 million. The names of the companies participating in the ICO have not yet been disclosed.

Russian regulator files lawsuit to block Telegram messenger

Russian federal telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor said on 06 April it had filed a lawsuit to limit access to the Telegram messaging application after the company refused to give Russian state security services access to its users' secret messages. Ranked as the world's ninth most popular mobile messaging application, Telegram is widely used in countries across the former Soviet Union and Middle East. The number of active users reached 200 million in March.

Telegram appoints new VP and CFO

Russian messenger Telegram has appointed Ilya Perekopsky as its vice-president and CFO, reports Tdaily.ru. Perekopsky will be responsible for business development at Telegram, including the ICO project and the development of the blockchain platform. Perekopsky previously worked as deputy CEO and CFO at Russian social network VKontakte.

Telegram reaches 200 mln active monthly users

Messaging app Telegram announced that its audience exceeded 200 million people in the past 30 days. The milestone was announced in a blog posting by founder Pavel Durov, who thanked users for the support. He noted that the company never used advertising, so the growth in user numbers came entirely from users inviting others to join the platform.

The encrypted messenger Telegram has raised USD 850 million in a sale of its own coin to private investors. According to a SEC filing, the money will be used to develop its own blockchain architecture for payments, develop and maintain the Telegram Messenger and for other corporate purposes.
