The messaging app Telegram announced it has passed 400 million monthly users, up from 300 million a year ago. The company said at least 1.5 million new users are signing up for the app every day.
Telegram also announced that it's working on bringing video calls to its apps, in order to respond to increased demand for the service during the coronavirus outbreak. The company said it's secure video calls service will be ready some time in 2020.
In addition, the group announced plans to award EUR 400,000 to creators of educational tests, to help the many students and teachers working from home. Tests can be submitted to @QuizBot on Telegram and will be published in a searchable directory. Based on their quality and popularity, Telegram will then announce the winners in several stages. Submissions for the first stage end on 15 May.
