Telekom Deutschland eyes EWE co-operation – report

After recently announcing plans to work more closely with competitors, Telekom Deutschland is on the brink of forming a co-operation with EWE Tel, according to a report in TelTarif.

Telekom Deutschland is reportedly in discussions to buy lines from regional operator EWE Tel, which maintains more than 6,100 cable bifurcations, unnamed sources told TelTarif. Negotiations are reportedly advanced but not yet underpinned by a contract.

The cooperation would allow Telekom to buy lines at EWE Tel at a bitstream level, while EWE Tel would be able to buy VDSL lines from Telekom Deutschland in expansion areas in the North-West of Germany. A spokesperson from EWE Tel could not give TelTarif any comment on the reports. Any agreement would be several weeks away, Teltarif said.

The news comes soon after Deutsche Telekom new board member for broadband cooperation Johannes Pruchnow told Handels Zeitung that the operator was planning to pursue partnerships with competitors.
