Telenet closes Interkabel takeover
Belgian cable operator Telenet has closed the acquisition of Interkabel's analog and digital subscriber base as well as the purchase and long-term lease of certain network assets. The General Assemblies of all Interkabel companies involved (Interelectra, Integan, WVEM en PBE and INDI) formally approved the transaction on 29-30 September. On 15 October, Telenet will launch Telenet Digital TV in the Interkabel area. Completion of the acquisition, which consolidates Telenet's lead on the Flemish TV market, took almost a year from the original announcement of an agreement in November 2007. Rival Belgacom attempted to the block the takeover both through a legal challenge and a higher bid for the Interkabel operations. This prompted Telenet to raise its offer, sealing the deal in June to buy the Interkabel activities from local authorities.
