Telenor names new CFO
Telenor Group has appointed Jorgen Rostrup (50) as its new chief financial officer, effective no later than 1 November. 

Rostrup comes from the position of President of Yara North America, a Norwegian agricultural products group. He was previously Yara Ghana country manager and held several executive positions at energy group Norsk Hydro, including CFO. Rostrup has also been on several boards, including positions within the private equity and investment banking area. 

Acting CFO Morten Karlsen Sorby, who took over when Richard Olav Aa was let go in April, will continue until Rostrup commences the position. He will then assume a new role as Chief Transformation Officer. 

In his new role, Karlsen Sorby will work closely with the CEO to lead the ongoing transformation process Telenor has initiated to meet the new digital opportunities facing the company. Karlsen Sorby will be part of the Telenor Group Executive Management Team, and he will report to the CEO.

Telenor promises dividends with renewed focus on cash flow

Telenor announced an increased focus on cash flow, with modest revenue growth and cost reductions expected to support continued growth in dividends. At its capital markets day, the operator said it expects organic service revenue growth of 1-2 percent in 2017, after a 1.1 percent increase last year, and an EBITDA margin rising to around 36 percent, from 35.4 in 2016. Capital expenditure is expected to drop to 15-16 percent of revenue, excluding licences, from 20.0 percent last year.

Telenor Group overhauls management into 4 regional clusters

Telenor Group has announced a change to its executive management team and organisational structure from 01 March 2017. Its business units will be organised into four clusters, for Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe, Emerging Asia and Mature Asia. Each cluster will be led by a Cluster Head, reporting to the group president and CEO. The changes will not affect Telenor's financial reporting structure.

Telenor audit finds problems in Thailand, Bangladesh

Telenor Group has responded to questions from the media in recent days regarding cases uncovered by the Group Internal Audit that are currently being handled internally or under investigation by foreign governments. The cases concern Dtac site leases in Thailand, Grameenphone sponsorships in Bangladesh, and potential financial crimes in an unspecified country.

Telenor prices Vimpelcom ADS offer at USD 3.50 each

Telenor said that the underwriters have priced its offering of 142.5 million Vimpelcom American Depositary Shares (ADS) in the US at USD 3.50 each, which would result in net proceeds to Telenor of USD 486.3 million. The ADS had closed at USD 3.62 on 15 September on Nasdaq.

Telenor to sell 33% stake in Vimpelcom soon - report

Telenor plans to sell its 33 percent stake in Vimpelcom Ltd on the London stock exchange in September, reports Vedomosti, citing UK-based publication TMT Finance. TMT Finance has based its article on its own sources. A source close to Vimpelcom confirmed to Vedemosti that the stake would be sold in the next two months.

Telenor admits 'insufficient' handling of VimpelCom case

Telenor is letting its CFO and general counsel go following a report showing the company failed to respond quickly to indications of corruption at its affiliate Vimpelcom. Telenor's board hired Deloitte Advokatfirma in November 2015 to investigate its handling of the allegations. The report found that Telenor's handling of the VimpelCom ownership was "insufficient". Telenor said that, as a result of the external review by Deloitte of the group's handling and oversight of its minority ownership in VimpelCom, it has temporarily relieved CFO Richard Olav Aa and General Counsel Pal Wien Espen of their responsibilities. It has taken the same measure with its former nominees to the VimpelCom executive committee, Fridtjof Rusten, who is CFO at Telenor's Thai subsidiary Dtac, and Ole Bjorn Sjulstad, who is head of Telenor Russia.
