Telia plans Telia Zone home broadband ecosystem

Telia Company said that it plans to launch Telia Zone, which it called a digital ecosystem and platform for broadband connections. It will provide customers with access to new services using a router, with no extra installation requirements. The first new service on the Telia Zone platform is Telia CoPlay, which it said is designed for use with Spotify.

Telia’s head of innovation, Rickard Damm, invited developers to submit ideas. The company said grocery chain ICA, audio book and e-book supplier Storytel and podcast provider Acast have already signed up as partners. Damm called Telia CoPlay, a “social playlist service” and the “perfect fit for any dinner, party or event”.    

Telia Zone, CoPlay and a range of other services will be launched towards the end of  2016. They will be instantly accessible to Telia Company’s 1.2 million customers in Sweden.

Swedish publisher and media company Bonnier said it is launching a digital publishing arm called Bonnier Bookery, as part of its growth strategy. It aims to attract online readers and listeners and will publish about 20 to 25 titles per year, both fiction and non-fiction. It will be led by Asa Selling, formerly editor in chief at Wahlstrom & Widstrand, who has worked with authors such as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Herta Muller, Emma Hamberg, Johan Theorin and Malin Persson Giolito.

Telia Sweden Q2 EBITDA edges up on positive mobile business

Telia Sweden said net sales in the second quarter, excluding acquisitions and disposals, declined 0.2 percent to SEK 9.260 billion from SEK 9.272 billion a year earlier. EBITDA excluding non-recurring items, acquisitions and disposals increased by 2.0 percent to SEK 3.509 billion from SEK 3.441 billion. Consumer service revenue growth stayed positive, supported by its "value loading strategy" in mobile communications, and more progress in broadband and TV.

Telia sells credit services arm Sergel for SEK 2.07 billion

Telia Company said it has agreed to sell its Nordic and Baltic credit management services (CMS) and debt purchase business Sergel to Marginalen for SEK 2.07 billion on a cash and debt-free basis. The proceeds will generate a positive net cash effect of approximately SEK 1.87 million and strengthen Telia Company's balance sheet. Telia CFO Christian Luiga said the transaction is part of its continuing strategy to focus on its core business.

Swedish telecommunications group Telia has agreed to sell its 76.6 percent stake in Spanish mobile operator Yoigo to MasMovil for EUR 479 million. Telia Company said its 3,300-strong Stockholm workforce is moving on 07 June to new premises above Mall of Scandinavia in the city's Solna district, near Stockholm Arena. It previously had its offices in the Farsta district and had been there for 57 years.

Telia Company said that it will now use Swedish and English, but not the Finnish language, in stock exchange releases, press releases and other disclosures. Fewer than 300,000 people in Finland speak Swedish, or just over 5 percent of the population, with nearly 89 percent speaking Finnish. Less than half of a percent speak Sami, the language of the area often known as Lappland.

Oberthur wins ICA Banken contactless card deal

Oberthur Technologies (OT) and ICA Banken have announced the launch of the first Dual Interface payment cards in Sweden. ICA Banken is a subsidiary of the ICA grocery chain, which has more than 1,300 branches nationwide. The cards will provide fast and secure contactless payments. ICA Banken and OT will distribute 500,000 cards to ICA Banken customers in the coming months.

Telia offers Spotify Business to small enterprises

Swedish operator Telia said it is offering its corporate customers Spotify Business, enabling restaurants, cafes, hairdressers and shops to play music for their customers legally. It claimed that the right music can help customers to stay longer and contribute to a better workplace. Spotify Business is available from the Telia App Market and costs from SEK 299 per month. The service can be streamed at up to five different branches. It is aimed at smaller enterprises.

Telia Denmark offers Storytel audio books

Telia Denmark said it is now offering more than 10,000 audiobooks to its customers through Storytel, the streaming provider. Customers will be able to listen to Danish and international books, including whodunnits, romances and children's publications.
