Telia Norway has announced that it is cutting about 10 percent of its workforce following the merger with TDC Norway and Get, but also because of more general industry pressures. Telia said it will scrap about 240 positions, including both employees and consultants. Many of the reductions will involve not filling vacancies.
More than 200 days have passed since the merger of Telia Norway with Get/TDC and a new organisational structure is in place. The operator is "under considerable pressure" in terms of its top line and bottom line alike, said CEO Abraham Foss. This is not unique to Telia, he added.
The staff cuts are only partially explained by overlapping functions as a consequence of the acquisitions. The industry is characterised by rapid changes in every area, nationally and globally, and in terms of the competitive situation, technology and customer behaviour. It is important to deliver in the short term but also position and strengthen itself "actively" for the long term, the company said.
Foss said Telia would do its best to ensure that affected workers will receive follow-up.
