TeliaSonera picks Huawei, Ericsson for network in Norway
TeliaSonera is rolling out a combined 2G/3G/LTE radio network in Norway to offer increased coverage and speed with equipment from Huawei and Ericsson. Huawei is providing equipment for the southern part of the network, while Ericsson is entering a 3-year contract to modernise and expand the northern part of TeliaSonera's Norwegian network and to roll out LTE in the same region. Ericsson will, as part of the modernisation process, replace the existing 2G and 3G radio base stations with its multi-standard RBS 6000 developed for GSM/EDGE, WCDMA/HSPA Evolution and LTE. The contract expands Ericsson's engagement with TeliaSonera in Norway and includes related services such as network roll-out, implementation and support. The contract also includes Ericsson's microwave technology Mini-Link. In 2012, TeliaSonera's 3G and LTE coverage will reach 95 percent and 89 percent of the Norwegian population. At present, TeliaSonera offers LTE to its customers in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Estonia with speeds up to ten times higher than 3G.
