TIM launches 300 Mbps LTE-A service in Rome

TIM (Telecom Italia) has announced the launch of its upgraded LTE-A (4G+) service in Rome, allowing customers to browse at speeds of up to 300 Mbps thanks to the aggregation of three available LTE spectrum bands (800, 1800 and 2600 MHz). The launch comes after the successful completion of trials run with Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies at the TILab in Turin, where top speeds of 450 Mbps were achieved using LTE-A technology on a Snapdragon 810 X10 LTE processor.

TIM said the 300 Mbps LTE-A service will be rolled out in other Italian cities in the coming weeks and that all customers with compatible handsets can access 4G+ free of charge until December 2016. However, the only smartphone currently available in Italy that can benefit from the tri-band service is the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+.
