TIM ups 4G speeds to 300 Mbps via tri-band aggregation

TIM (Telecom Italia) is set to increase the maximum download speed of its Italian mobile network to 300 Mbps by the end of the year after running field trials combining the three available spectrum bands for LTE (800, 1800 and 2600 MHz). The move comes around a year after TIM announced the combination of two of the three bands to reach consistent speeds of around 180 Mbps and peak speeds of 220 Mbps on its LTE-A network.

The operator also announced that in trials run with Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies at the TILab in Turin, top speeds of 450 Mbps had been achieved using LTE-A technology on a Snapdragon 810 X10 LTE processor.
