Time Warner buys 10% stake in Hulu
Time Warner has acquired a 10 percent stake in streaming TV service Hulu for USD 583 million. It joins Disney, 21st Century Fox and Comcast as shareholders in the joint venture. In addition, the company has agreed to contribute content from its Turner stable of channels to Hulu, including TNT, TBS, CNN, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, truTV, Boomerang and Turner Classic Movies.

The content will launch on Hulu’s new live-streaming service, which the company confirmed is slated to launch early next year. In addition to live channels, Hulu will continue to offer its ad-supported VoD service and the ad-free subscription VoD service.

Hulu's new live service is expected to cost USD 40 a month. Turner will offer its current-season programming only for the live service, but not on-demand for the Hulu subscription VoD service at USD 7.99 a month. A Time Warner spokesman told Dow Jones that there have been conversations about HBO also being carried on Hulu, and talks are expected to continue.
