US President Donald Trump has signed a defense bill that bans government agencies doing business with Huawei and ZTE. China's commerce ministry said it would review the legislation for its impact, Reuters reports.
The Defense Authorization Act covers a wide range of military spending. It includes a ban on US government departments buying essential systems or components from the Chinese companies due to security concerns about their links with Chinese state security agencies. The Senate had attempted a stricter ban against ZTE doing business with any US companies, but was not supported by Trump or the House of Representatives in the measure.
Huawei and ZTE have been singled out as national security threats by the US since a Congressional report in 2012. The latest ban also covers video surveillance and telecommunications hardware produced by Hytera Communications, Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Company and Dahua Technology Company, all Chinese firms, Techcrunch reports.
