Twitter rolls out Lite app in 24 countries

Twitter has announced the launch of its 'Lite' app in 24 countries after a successful trial in the Philippines. At under 3MB, the app is designed to load faster on a slow connection and to be "more resilient on unreliable mobile networks", with the company claiming a 50 percent rise in the number of tweets since it launched Lite earlier this year. Options include an offline mode and a data saver mode that only downloads the images and videos users want to see. In addition, users can access a version of Twitter Lite via the company's mobile website and won't require an email, credit card or Google Play account to use it.

The Lite app is available now in Algeria, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Egypt, Israel, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Malaysia, Nigeria, Nepal, Panama, Peru, Serbia, El Salvador, South Africa, Thailand, Tunisia, Tanzania and Venezuela.
