Twitter has started testing audio tweets. Users can record voice clips of up to 140 seconds to post on the social media site, using the new wavelength icon added to the tweet box.
Multiple messages can be recorded to create longer audio clips, the same as a string of tweets. The voice messages will appear in user feeds the same as text tweets. On iOS only, playback will start in a new window at the bottom of the timeline, and users can listen as they scroll through other messages or do other things on the phone.
The new service will be available to a limited group of users on iOS to start and expand to all iOS users in the coming weeks. All Twitter users will be able to listen to audio messages.
