Twitter starts testing voice direct messages in Brazil

Brazil has become the first country where Twitter is testing the use of voice in direct messages (DMs) exchanged between subscribers. Only iPhone and iPad owners can record the messages to start, although whoever receives the audio messages can listen to them regardless of the device used. The company said it intends to extend DM audio recording to Android devices as a next step.

In June, Twitter started testing audio tweets. Users can record voice clips of up to 140 seconds to post on the social media site, using the wavelength icon added to the tweet box.
