International cable operator Liberty Global as completed the merger of its two German subsidiaries Unitymedia and KabelBW. The regional cable operators based in the counties of Baden-Wuerttemberg (KabelBW), Hessen and North Rhine-Westphalia (Unitymedia) will now operate as one business, Unitymedia KabelBW, with its head office in the city of Cologne.
The company’s management consists of Lutz Schueler, former CEO at Unitymedia, who will be the CEO of the new company; Herbert Leifker will be the new CCO (same position at Unitymedia before); Uwe Baermann will be CTO (same position at KabelBW before); and the former Unitymedia co-CFOs Jens Mueller and Jon Garrison, will hold the same positions at the new company.
With the merger, Unitymedia KabelBW claims to be the fastest growing telecommunications provider in Germany. With the customer bases from the former businesses combined, the company counts customers in 12.5 million households.
