Unitymedia KabelBW unveils Horizon STBs

Liberty Global subsidiary and German cable network operator Unitymedia KabelBW has started offering its Horizon media gateway to customers in North Rhine Westphalia and Hessen. The Horizon gateway offers access to linear TV content, VoD, EPG, online video platforms and more interactivity for the cable company's customers. This also includes apps that can be used via TV sets for example Facebook, Twitter, Youtube as well as Wikipedia. 

The Horizon box is able to record up to four HDTV channels at the same time and the recorded programs as well as up to 96 TV channels (depending on the selected TV tariff) can be watched via PCs and iOS devices as well. Customers can also choose for the Horizon box without WLAN module and recording functionality, and Unitymedia KabelBW plans to launch the so-called Horizon HD Multiroom services in 2014. 

As an introductory offer, the Horizon HD Recorder costs EUR 299 and the receiver costs EUR 199 untill the end of October, after which they will cost EUR 399 and EUR 249 respectively. Customers can also choose to lease the devices for EUR 8 per month for the recorder and EUR 5 for the receiver if selected before 31 October, after which the monthly fees are EUR 10 and EUR 7 respectively. The lease contracts have a minimum period of 24 months.
