UPC Switzerland launches new UPC TV Box

UPC Switzerland has launched the UPC TV Box, offering an enhanced, intuitive user interface, supported by voice control. UPC TV Box remembers which commands its owners use and learns new commands all the time. In addition, it shows customers personal recommendations based on their TV viewing behaviour.

Customers of the new UPC TV have over 240 channels to choose from, including the MySports One channel, which offers exclusive live sport. Netflix, YouTube and Sky are also integrated. Customers will have access to almost 500 channels with various add-on options as well as TV series only available from UPC.

In combination with the UPC TV App, customers can easily switch between their TV set and smartphone or tablet. They can download up to 2,000 hours of programmes and watch them from anywhere thanks to cloud storage. Streaming content in UHD/4K is also possible with the new UPC TV.

UPC TV supports TV viewing in one household on up to five UPC TV Boxes at the same time. These are available for CHF 5 per month per additional box.

The new service with the UPC TV Box costs the same as the Horizon box service.

UPC Switzerland RGU losses swell to 48,600 in Q4, revenues fall 5%

UPC Switzerland reported revenues for 2018 of CHF 1.296 billion, down 3.7 percent from a year earlier due to tough competition leading to customer losses. The cable operator lost another 32,000 TV customers in Q4 for a total of 1.083 million, and broadband customers were also down by 12,000 to 700,000. Only the mobile customer base grew, by 9,000 to 146,000.

UPC Switzerland reported a continued fall in cable customer numbers in the third quarter, while growing in the mobile market. Due to the highly competitive market environment and negative subscription trends, revenues declined by 3.2 percent in the residential customer segment in the first nine months of 2018 compared to 2017.

Quickline offers one year's free Netflix Standard subscription

Swiss operator Quickline has reached an agreement with Netflix concerning a joint offer. Their first joint promotion is a free one-year subscription to Netflix for all new internet subscribers. Existing subscribers will be credited the value of the Netflix subscription to their Netflix account. The value of the offer is CHF 190.80, which is a twelve-month subscription for Netflix Standard (HD) at CHF 15.90 a month.

Liberty Global unveils Horizon 4 box, adding OTT content, 4K, voice remote

Liberty Global has unveiled its new Horizon 4 set-top box at its annual Tech Summit in Amsterdam. Based on the V6 launched last year in the UK by its subsidiary Virgin Media, the Horizon 4 will roll out in the coming months at Ziggo in the Netherlands, Telenet in Belgium and UPC Switzerland.

UPC Czech Republic and Slovakia adds 5 channels to Horizon TV

UPC Czech Republic and Slovakia added five TV channels to its digital TV service Horizon. They include three channels of the FilmBox family - FightBox HD, DocuBox HD and Fast&Fun Box HD, as well as music channel Mezzo Live HD and the news channel Euronews HD. After the addition, Horizon TV will include more than 180 channels, of which 67 in HD.
