Ventelo switches to Phonero name
Ventelo said it will formally switch to the Phonero name on 01 January 2015 after the two companies' merger. Support and information will be available on the Phonero website in future. Existing contracts, prices and products remain valid although Ventelo customers will now have access to Phonero ones, too. The sale of Ventelo by Broadnet was announced in July 2014. Phonero uses the Telenor mobile network. Phonero is majority-owned by the Kistefos investment group, whose sole owner is businessman Christen Sveaas.

Telenor Norway loses historical court case over TDC MVNO fees

Oslo District Court said it is ordering Telenor Norway to pay legal costs in relation to a case dating back to 2010, concerning MVNO access fees that it charged TDC.  It ordered the operator to pay NOK 329,500 in court costs on behalf of the Ministry of Transport and Communication, and NOK 1.39 million to TDC.

Watchdog may intervene in Telia's Phonero buy - report

The Norwegian Competition Authority may intervene in Telia's acquisition of Phonero, according to an extract from an article on the InsideTelecom.no portal. It cited a letter sent to Telia on 16 December. Inside Telecom said the authority feared the acquisition could have a number of negative consequences, particular for the retail market, saying it could lead to lower quality of service offerings but with higher prices. It is also wary about the effects on Ice and the construction of a third network.

Telia buys Norwegian B2B operator Phonero for NOK 2.3 bln

Telia Company said it has acquired Norwegian firm Phonero at an enterprise value of NOK 2.3 billion million on a cash and debt-free basis. Telia expects the deal to strengthen its position in the Norwegian enterprise segment and to generate annual cost synergies of approximately NOK 400 million.

NKOM adopts mobile voice call termination price cuts

The Norwegian Communications Authority (NKOM), formerly PT, said it has adopted its plan to cut prices for voice call termination on mobile networks, after the EFTA Surveillance Agency (ESA) said on 19 December that it had no comments on the plan. NKOM will reduce prices gradually from a maximum of NOK 0.160 per minute currently to NOK 0.083 on 01 July 2015, to NOK 0.075 on 01 January 2016 and to NOK 0.065 a minute on 01 January 2017. This will affect Com4, Lycamobile, Network Norway, Phonero, TDC, Telenor

Get, Alltele climb in Netflix November Nordic ISP rankings

Netflix has published its Nordic ISP speed rankings for November 2014. The biggest change was in Norway, where Get swapped places with Altibox to become the leader, and where NTE switched places with Loqal and came third. In Sweden, Alltele managed to climb from sixth place to fourth. There were no changes in rankings in Denmark or Finland.

Broadnet appoints Kjellemo to lead major customer services

Norwegian cable operator Broadnet has appointed Svein Kjellemo to head customer services for major clients, according to ComputerWorld Norway. Kjellemo has been working in telecoms for 34 years, with experience in technology, sales administration, and management. He joins Broadnet from Dataguard, where he had been head of sales since 2010. He had previously worked as market director at MTU Link and in customer services at Telenor from 1980 to 2006.

AINMT Scandinavia lifts Q3 revenue, plans to list bond

AINMT Scandinavia Holding, part of Ukrainian-American billionaire Len Blavatnik's Access Industries, said services revenues in the third quarter of 2014 grew by 5 percent year on year to NOK 129.971 million from NOK 124.261 million a year earlier. EBITDA rose by 7 percent to NOK 24.892 million from NOK 23.315 million last time. The net loss for the third quarter was NOK 28.156 million, up from a net loss of NOK 6.806 million last year. Alcatel-Lucent wins Ice Norway, Net1 LTE network deal

AINMT Holding, part of Ukrainian-American billionaire Len Blavatnik's Access Industries, said it has awarded Alcatel-Lucent a contract to deploy 4G and IP networking technology throughout Scandinavia. The company will initially roll out a complete mobile broadband access network, one of the first in the 450 MHz spectrum band, for Ice.net in Norway and for Net 1 in Sweden and Denmark.

Broadnet wins NCA WAN contract

The Norwegian Coastal Administration (NCA) has selected Norwegian cable operator Broadnet as a provider of WAN and internet services. The contract runs for three years and has a value of approximately NOK 7 million. Under the contract, Broadnet will connect all, around 70 NCA locations using IP VPN and data connections.

Tele2 signs frequencies, infrastructure deal with Ice Norway

Tele2 said its subsidiary Mobile Norway has signed an agreement with Access Industries unit Ice Communication Norge for the lease of frequencies in the 900 MHz band. As a part of the agreement, Ice intends to purchase parts of Tele2's mobile network infrastructure if the Norwegian Competition Authority approves TeliaSonera acquisition of Tele2 in Norway. This section of the agreement consists of a fixed part and an alternative in terms of number of base stations and the time of the acquisition.

Phonero buys Ventelo from Broadnet

Broadnet unit Ventelo has announced its sale to Phonero, which it said will create the largest rival to Telenor on the business market. The merged company will have revenue of more than NOK 1 billion. It said Ventelo had enterprise revenue of NOK 784 million in 2013 with a pre-tax profit of NOK 43 million, and Phonero had NOK 318 million enterprise revenue and a NOK 35 million pre-tax profit.
