Verizon Business announced its first major 5G enterprise deal in Europe, with Associated British Ports (ABP) to deploy private 5G at the Port of Southampton. The network will be delivered in partnership with Nokia, giving one of the UK’s busiest ports its own secure, low-latency private network connection.
According to Verizon, Southampton will be the first UK mainland port with access to a private 5G network. The network will cover selected areas within the East and West Docks of the port, supporting on-site communications with improved reliability and security compared to previous Wi-Fi systems.
Verizon Business announced the launch of its international private 5G platform for global enterprises in Europe and Asia-Pacific in October 2020. The network is based on the Nokia Digital Automation Cloud, an application platform providing high-bandwidth, low-latency private wireless connectivity and local edge computing.
