Vimeo acquires OTT SVoD platform VHX
Video-sharing website Vimeo has acquired OTT subscription platform VHX for an undisclosed amount. Vimeo said that with the addition of VHX, it now offers a complete streaming ecosystem for individual creators, niche programmers and major media partners to offer SVoD channels. Vimeo customers can now launch branded SVoD channels across websites, mobile and TV apps. Creators will benefit from access to a global ecosystem of over 280 million creators and viewers. In addition, Vimeo offers creators the possibility of launching or migrating SVoD channels in 4K adaptive streaming across mobile, web and TV apps. VHX co-founder and CEO Jamie Wilkinson will report to Vimeo CEO Kerry Trainor.

Wilkinson and VHX co-founder Casey Pugh write in a blog post that VHX sellers and customers would be unaffected in the short term, but that the company will be able to improve VHX a lot faster in the long term. Thanks to the acquisition, the comapny will gain access to better streaming infrastructure, better apps, more marketing and business development firepower, and access to a huge, global audience. These improvements are expected to translate into more competitive products and new marketing and syndication opportunities for its sellers.
