Vivendi makes takeover offer for Dailymotion
Vivendi confirmed that it made an offer to acquire the video-sharing site Dailymotion from Orange. While Vivendi did not mention a price, Les Echos reports that the board of Orange is meeting on 7 April to consider the EUR 250 million bid to buy 100 percent of Dailymotion. Orange invested EUR 160 million in Dailymotion after a deal to sell it to Yahoo! fell through over government opposition to selling a French digital "success story" to foreign owners.

In related news, Hong Kong-based operator PCCW pulled out of talks to buy a minority stake in Dailymotion after French interior minister Emmanuel Macron said the company should remain in European hands. PCCW reacted by issuing a statement saying, "An environment where policies appear to favour a French or European solution is discouraging for international business participation. We will therefore withdraw from our discussions with Dailymotion and its current owners." It adds, "PCCW has a clear digital strategy and will continue to invest to expand its media business internationally via OTT video platforms and partnerships."
