Vodacom Group revenue rises 6.7% to ZAR 22.6 bln in Q3

Vodacom Group revenues increased by 6.7 percent to ZAR 22.6 billion for the quarter to end December, with service revenue up 5.5 percent to ZAR 18.4 billion. The group added 2.5 million active customers during the quarter, including 1.6 million in South Africa and 0.9 million in its International operations, to reach 73.6 million active customers across the Group, up 13.0 percent year on year. Group data revenue increased 9.7 percent to ZAR 6.6 billion. 

At International operations, service revenue increased 8.7 percent to ZAR 4.6 billion; a third consecutive quarter of accelerating growth. This was underpinned by strong growth in both data and M-Pesa revenue. 

Tanzania continues to deliver on its turnaround strategy with good revenue and customer growth while it continued its efforts to improve customer registration processes. Mozambique and Lesotho have made solid progress on their strategic priorities of M-Pesa and data growth, delivering excellent momentum, while performance in the DRC has improved as the currency and economic environment starts to stabilise.

Vodacom's International operations added 920,000 customers in the three months, up 11.2 percent to 32.0 million, supported by good customer growth both in the DRC and Mozambique. Data revenue grew by 19.5 percent, supported by an increase of 1.3 million data customers in the quarter, to 16.0 million. 

M-Pesa revenue continued to accelerate at 33.3 percent to ZAR 653 million, contributing 14.3 percent to service revenue. The group said capital expenditure went to ZAR 630 million.
