Vodafone files lawsuit against KPN takeover of Reggefiber
Vodafone Netherlands has filed a lawsuit against the Dutch regulator ACM over the approval of KPN's takeover of FTTH operator Reggefiber. The operator confirmed the suit to Dutch website Tweakers, but declined to say why it was contesting the transaction. Vodafone last year expanded its fixed broadband services nationwide and is active as a service provider on Reggefiber's network. KPN received clearance last October from the ACM, which is both telecom and competition regulator, to increase its stake to 60 percent in Reggefiber and consolidate the company. It has since announced an agreement to buy the remaining shares. The operator remains subject to wholesale access regulation. A spokesman for the court in Rotterdam said it would still be several months before the case is heard.

Reggefiber adds 110,000 homes passed in Q4

Dutch FTTH operator Reggefiber expanded its network in Q4 2014 to pass another 110,000 homes, good for a total 2.003 million at year-end. The company announced already in mid-December that it passed the 2 million mark. In total, it added 315,000 homes to the network in 2014, more than the 250,000 planned. The number of homes activated increased to 677,000 at year-end, a net addition of 54,000 in the fourth quarter, a record for the company. The network penetration reached 33.8 percent at the end of 2014.

Vodafone Netherlands' latest quarterly report showed a continued fall in ARPU, with the company's growth now coming from the fixed market. Service revenues for the three months to December totaled EUR 437.7 million, an organic increase of 2.2 percent. This is the first growth since 2012.

Vodafone Netherlands reported a return to revenue growth in its fiscal third quarter to December. Organic service revenue increased 2.2 percent year-on-year to EUR 437.7 million, the first increase in three years. ARPU rose 2.2 percent as well, to EUR 25.50, thanks to a higher share of postpaid customers. Prepaid ARPU was down 13.4 percent to EUR 4, while postpaid ARPU declined 2.2 percent to EUR 33. Dutch fibre subscribers pass 750,000

The number of Dutch households with a fibre broadband subscription passed 750,000 in November, according to the Telecompaper FTTH Monitor. KPN has agreed to acquire the remaining 40 percent in its FTTH joint venture Reggefiber for EUR 610 million. The Dutch regulator ACM has commissioned a study from researcher Blauw on switching behaviour among customers of Tele2, Vodafone, Online, CanalDigitaal and Solcon if the ISPs no longer had access to KPN's fixed network.
