Vodafone Germany auctions replica of world's first SMS as NFT for UNHCR

Vodafone said it has sold in an auction in Paris a replica of the world's first ever SMS for EUR 107,000 in the form of a Non Fungible Token (NFT). Vodafone will donate the proceeds to the United Nations refugee agency UNHCR. The chief executive officer of Vodafone Germany, Hannes Ametsreiter, said that the company teamed up with "crypto experts as well as auction experts" to sell the SMS as a token.

The world's first SMS read "Merry Christmas" and was sent on the Vodafone network to a Vodafone employee on 03 December 1992.

Sky Mavis, the company behind play-to-earn game Axie Infinity, announced a USD 150 million funding round led by Binance with participation from Animoca Brands, a16z, Dialectic, and Paradigm. The round combined with Sky Mavis balance sheet funds will be used to ensure that all users affected by the Ronin Validator Hack will be reimbursed. The Ronin Network bridge will open once it has undergone a security upgrade and several audits, which can take several weeks, the company said.

YouTube wil gaan experimenteren met NFT's

YouTube-CEO Susan Wojcicki heeft in een brief aangekondigd dat YouTube wil gaan experimenteren met zogenaamde 'non-fungible tokens', kortweg NFT's. Daarmee springt ook YouTube in op de hype rondom NFT's. Middels NFT's is het mogelijk om het eigendom van een digitaal goed vast te leggen. YouTube ziet NFT's als potentiële nieuwe inkomstenbron voor contentproducenten.

Vodafone Germany supplies prefab homes in flood area with wireless connectivity

Vodafone Germany said it has provided Wi-Fi internet via the mobile network to prefabricated houses in the Ahr Valley in North Rhine-Westphalia, which was hit by flood this summer. Residents living in the small prefabs because of flood damage to their own homes can now go online and stream Vodafone's GigaTV with an AppleTV set-top box.

Vodafone Germany launches new Smart Tech tariffs for IoT products

Vodafone Germany has launched new Smart Tech tariffs for IoT products. The Smart Tech S, with 500 MB for trackers, costs EUR 1.99 per month. The Smart Tech M is intended for smartwatches, as well as children or seniors. It provides 3GB, 500 minutes for calls and 100 texts for EUR 5.99 per month. The Smart Tech L is ideal for the use of smart cameras, for example. It can supply 20 GB for EUR 9.99 per month.

Vodafone invests EUR 20 mln to advance digital skills, education in Europe

Vodafone announced an investment of EUR 20 million by the Vodafone Foundation to expand digital skills and education programmes in the operator's markets. The money will fund local initiatives in Albania, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Turkey, and the UK. This investment is expected to reach 16 million learners by 2025.

Tele2 Germany has started a campaign to donate EUR 1 to non-profit organisations in combination with postpaid subscriptions, at no additional cost to customers. New customers automatically donate EUR 1 per month if they subscribe to the tariffs M, L or XL. These tariffs provide unlimited calls and texts and a monthly data allowance.
