Vodafone Germany rolls out Crystal Clear technology
Vodafone Germany has announced the roll out of Vodafone Crystal Clear technology across its LTE mobile network to improve voice quality. The first smartphones supporting this new technology will launch in the coming weeks.

The technology is based on so-called Enhanced Voice Services (EVS) Codecs, which expand the voice service to the entire frequency range heard by humans of 20 kHz, instead of 7 kHz. The new technology offers better voice quality than HD Voice, according to the "Behind the VoLTE Curtain" study by Spirent Communications and Signal Research Group cited by Vodafone. 

Free firmware updates will be made available to customers with supporting smartphones.

Vodafone Germany expands handsets with Crystal Clear voice

Vodafone Germany announced that the new Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones support the Vodafone Crystal Clear technology, and the Huawei P10 and P10 Plus will also be added within the next two weeks. The improved voice quality is already available with the Sony Xperia XZ and Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge. The feature, said to be even better than HD Voice, was first launched by the operator last summer. It's available through a firmware update.

Vodafone Germany launches 4.5G services at up to 375 Mbps

Vodafone Germany has announced the launch of 4.5G mobile technology, supporting speeds of up to 375 Mbps. The new technology will be rolled out in 30 cities across the country by end-2016, with new 4.5G base stations now live in 22 of these cities. These include the centres of Berlin, Dresden, Duesseldorf, Cologne, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Hanover. Vodafone deploys triple carrier aggregation in 800, 1800 and 2600 MHz bands.

Vodafone Germany offers LTE roaming in 100 countries

Vodafone Germany now offers LTE roaming in 100 countries, with Moldova supported from 15 September. For travel within the EU and other countries, Vodafone has launched 'Giga Travel' to abolish EU roaming fees for new customers and those extending contracts for Red tariffs, as well as for all pre-paid users.

Vodafone Wallet adds Gutscheinbuch.de vouchers

Vodafone Germany is expanding the Vodafone Wallet service through a partnership with Gutscheinbuch.de. The partnership will allow Vodafone to offer a wide selection for free vouchers for food & drink, shopping, hotels, wellness and spa, and leisure activities to customers. From end-October, Vodafone customers across all regions will have access to up to 4,000 mobile coupons/vouchers through Vodafone Wallet. Gutscheinbuch.de is a leading coupon provider with over 15 million coupons sold to date.

Vodafone, Connect seek technology start-ups

Vodafone Germany has teamed with Connect magazine to support technology start-ups. Start-ups who have already launched their product or service, or plan to do so in 2017, can now apply for the Breakthrough 2017 Award. A shortlist of applicants will be decided through user voting, with a panel of judges then selecting the top three start-ups. Vodafone Germany brand Otelo is running a promotion until 30 November offering the Smartphone 400 service bundle for free for the first month, in addition to a free prepaid SIM card. In order to claim this offer, customers have to put at least EUR 9 on their card when they first buy credit.

Otelo launches EU data roaming add-on for EUR 4.99

Vodafone Germany brand Otelo has launched a new data add-on for the EU. For EUR 4.99, all postpaid customers can add 300 MB. The data allowance can be used within the EU as well as in Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway but not in Switzerland. The add-on is valid for up to seven days, and will not be renewed automatically. After using up the allowance, Otelo will charge EUR 0.0595 per MB. Unused data expires after the 7-day period.

Vodafone offers Pokemon mobile chargers at half price

Vodafone Germany announced it will provide mobile charging for Pokemon Go players who run out of battery. The "PNY PowerPack 5200 mAh" charges smartphones fully up to two times, and now costs EUR 12.90 instead of EUR 24.90. Over the next few weeks, the provider will lure Pokemon hunters into its shops with up to 74 Pokemons per shop.

Vodafone offers free VR headset with Samsung Galaxy Note 7

Vodafone Germany has started taking pre-orders for Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. Those who pre-order the device by 1 September get a Samsung Gear VR headset as a gift. On the Red L plan with a minimum contract duration of 24 months, the phone is available from EUR 149. A EUR 29.99 connection fee applies. Without contract, the Galaxy Note 7 costs EUR 849. Vodafone will start delivering the phone on 2 September.

Vodafone Germany announced to convert its Red One portfolio into GigaKombi from 22 August; the bundle will offer broadband at up to 400 Mbps and LTE Max at up to 375 Mbps on all Red mobile tariffs. The bundle is available from EUR 19.99 per month.

Otelo offers 1 extra GB on Young plan

Vodafone Germany brand Otelo has increased data allowances for new customers aged 27 or younger who subscribe to the Otelo the Young tariff by 31 August. The plan for EUR 19.99 per month includes unlimited calls, SMS at EUR 0.09 each and now 3 GB of data at up to 21.1 Mbps. This offer only applies to new contracts concluded at an Otelo branch and existing customers who renew their contract or change plans.

Vodafone claims German mobile lead by share, sales growth

Vodafone Deutschland said it is the only German mobile company to have increased its market share, citing figures released by the country's operators during the reporting season just ended. Vodafone Germany said it expanded its market share by 0.2 percentage points by 30 June, whereas Telefonica Germany lost 0.2 percentage points, and Deutsche Telekom's mobile market share was unchanged.

Vodafone Germany has launched a new Telematik service offering the logistics sector a solution for the surveillance, control and optimisation of fleets. In cooperation with IT specialist Dako, Vodafone is offering the Telematik Classic, Telematik Premium light and Telematik Premium plans to support communication of web-based applications with the entire fleet in real-time.
