Vodafone Germany selects Huawei, Ericsson for LTE
Vodafone Germany has selected Huawei and Ericsson as technology partners for deploying a LTE network in German rural regions without broadband coverage. The operator plans to start deploying LTE at the end of September of this year with around 1,500 base stations planned to have LTE by the end of 2011. Vodafone already deployed HSDPA technology in several test regions in recent months. During the German frequency auction in May, Vodafone Germany acquired two blocks (2x5 MHz each) of digital dividend (800 MHz) spectrum for EUR 1.21 billion. The frequency can be used to deploy LTE in rural areas.

Vodafone Germany launches LTE services in seaside resort

Vodafone Germany has launched LTE services in the Baltic Sea resort of Heiligendamm, the first of more than 1,000 communities across the country to be served with LTE mobile broadband services by December. Huawei is providing LTE network equipment to Vodafone. The operator aims to to deploy LTE technology in around 1,500 communities by end-March 2011.

Vodafone Germany is planning to outsource its mobile network maintenance to Ericsson, according to German newspaper Rheinische. Sources told the newspaper that an announcement is expected in the coming days. A spokesman for Vodafone Germany told Dow Jones Newswires that a contract has been awarded but he declined to name the winner.

Telekom Deutschland has deployed its first LTE base stations in Burgbernheim, Hemau, Nennslingen and Woerth a.d. Donau in the Free State Bavaria. The operator plans to cover more than 500 municipalities with LTE by the end of this year.

Vodafone to present LTE, Connected Home, Vodafone TV at IFA

Vodafone Germany will focus on Connected Homes, Vodafone TV and LTE technology when it exhibits at IFA 2010 in Berlin from 03-09 September. It will also exhibit current and future handsets and tablet models. It will show the Vodafone TV intelligent system for the first time at IFA. This system combines different receiver methods such as cable or satellite with future technology via DSL. Vodafone will also demonstrate LTE mobile broadband technology and compatible end devices.

Vodafone Germany plans new TV service, more mobile broadband

Vodafone Germany plans to launch a new TV service for its fixed broadband customers later this year, CEO Fritz Joussen said in an interview with the newspaper FAZ. Vodafone Germany to outsource network maintenance

Vodafone Germany intends to outsource its network maintenance services, a company spokesman told Dow Jones Newswires, confirming a report in German regional daily Rheinische Post. Deutsche Telekom starts LTE deployment in East Germany

Deutsche Telekom will start deploying LTE in rural areas in the summer of this year. The operator will start in East Germany with the roll-out. The first LTE base stations will be deployed in Kyritz and Ziesar both in the state of Brandenburg.
