Vodafone Germany confirmed that it will update devices used for the Horizon TV offering for existing customers from spring 2022. This means that the Horizon offering inherited with the takeover of Unitymedia will be replaced with Vodafone's own Giga TV offering. The rollout is expected to be completed by autumn 2022.
The GigaTV Cable Box 2 has been the standard device for TV reception in North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse and Baden-Wuerttemberg since September. So far, however, only new customers have been able to access GigaTV.
The company will also start to offer Prime Video, ARD’s radio program in an updated radio standard, and the new Geo Wild channel.
The radio programs of public broadcaster ARD radio will be delivered via AAC-LC from 16 November. GigaTV and Horizon set-top boxes support the new audio standard.
Vodafone has meanwhile started to deploy the app to access Prime Video on all GigaTV set-top boxes. The app will gradually be available on all devices in the coming weeks. New customers of Prime Video can test the offering for one month free of charge after registering on the Amazon website or with the GigaTV set-top box. The offering costs EUR 7.99 per month after the free trial.
GigaTV including Netflix subscription
Vodafone will also offer the new TV tariff GigaTV including Netflix from 02 November. The tariff enables access to GigaTV and includes the Netflix standard subscription. The minimum contract period is 24 months. In the first six months of contract, the monthly fee is EUR 19.99 per month, and the price is EUR 25.99 per month after that. In addition, new customers who opt for the bundle offering will receive the Vodafone Premium PayTV package free of charge for the first two months. Customers can also sign up for a Netflix Premium subscription for an extra EUR 5 per month.
Finally, Vodafone Germany said it has added Geo Wild, a channel from RTL Germany showing documentaries about nature. Vodafone and RTL are therefore expanding their partnership, which was already extended in August.
