Vodafone India adds cash withdrawals to M-Pesa platform

Vodafone India has introduced a cash out facility for its 8.4 million Vodafone M-Pesa customers. Users can now withdraw cash using their digital wallet from any of the over 120,000 Vodafone M-Pesa outlets across the country.

The Vodafone M-Pesa nationwide network currently includes over 120,000 M-Pesa outlets. Over 56 percent of these outlets are located in the rural India. The Vodafone M-Pesa digital wallet can be digitally loaded via credit or debit card or net banking. Additionally, the Vodafone M-Pesa wallet can also be used to shop online, pay bills and remit money.

To avail the cash withdrawal facility, customers need to carry an identity proof to their nearest Vodafone M-Pesa outlet from where they can withdraw money, subject to availability, in line with RBI guidelines.

India cuts USSD charges to boost mobile banking

India's Telecom Regulatory Authority announced a cut in the maximum fee for USSD banking, in an effort to support mobile payment services. Effective immediately, the maximum cost per USSD session is INR 0.50, down from INR 1.50 previously, and the number of transactions per session increases to eight from five. Trai said the lower price will help increase access to financial services, especially in rural areas where more and more people have mobile phones.

Vodafone India has signed a partnership agreement with West Bengal State Rural Livelihood Mission (WBSRLM), to empower women of Self Help Group (SHG), as an initiative of financial inclusion.
