
Vodafone launches Webbook in South Africa

Vodacom South Africa announced the launch of the Vodafone Webbook, a new device expected to bring simplified, value-added internet access to thousands of South Africans. The compact device weighs less than 1 kg and features a 10-inch LCD screen, ARM processor, 512MB of memory and an additional 4GB of storage space. It runs the Ubuntu operating system and comes with various software applications, a 24-month warranty and free software updates. As a standalone device, the computer will cost ZAR 1,499 including VAT. With a prepaid starter pack, which includes a modem, Sim and 100MB data per month, the device costs ZAR 1,899. For postpaid customers, the device with a modem costs ZAR 189 with the My Meg 500 plan for 24 months. Customers can also get a top-up option, with a modem and 100MB of data per month for three months at ZAR 169 on the Top Up 135 plan. The Vodafone Webbook will be available at Vodacom World and other dealers on order from 19 October.
