Vodafone Spain, Huawei launch keyless IoT smart lock

Shortly after announcing the expansion of its NB-IoT network to all localities with more than 25,000 inhabitants, Vodafone Spain has teamed up with Huawei and Top Digital to launch an NB-IoT smart lock system aimed above all at hotel chains and property managers. The keyless technology is based on NB-IoT connectivity and allows users to unlock doors via a mobile phone app, with corporate users able to manage the “digital keys” remotely via an online portal.

Vodafone added that the product uses Huawei’s OceanConnect IoT platform and its national NB-IoT network, providing increased connectivity, reliability and security even when the signal is weak, such as inside buildings and basements.

Vodafone Spain hits 2.13 million IoT lines, up 24% YoY

Vodafone Spain announced at MWC 2019 in Barcelona that it increased its internet of things (IoT) connections by 24 percent year on year in 2018 to reach 2.13 million at the end of December. The 418,000 year on year growth in IoT lines compares to rises of 324,000 and 317,000 for Orange and Movistar (Telefonica), said Vodafone, with the telecare, security and banking sectors leading the way with 160,000, 100,000 and 50,000 new connections in 2018.

Vodafone Spain has announced that it will be installing IoT sensors in different locations around Bilbao to ensure the optimal management and organisation of the MTV Music Week Bizkaia event held in the Basque capital starting 29 October. Spain tops 5 million M2M lines

Spain reached the milestone of 5 million machine-to-machine (M2M) lines in January 2018, according to the latest figures from regulator CNMC. The number of M2M lines came to 5,006,818 at the end of January, up 10.9 percent or nearly half a million (491,083) year on year, said the watchdog, adding that the total number of active mobile (voice, broadband and M2M) lines was up 1.9 percent to 52.1 million.
