Vodafone UK to test wind-powered mobile masts in rural areas

Vodafone UK will start a trial deployment of eco friendly, wind-powered masts later in 2021. The self-powered masts could help Vodafone connect the most remote parts of the UK through the Rural Shared Network (RSN), and help achieve its ambition of reaching net zero for its UK operations by 2027.

Vodafone has been working with Crossflow Energy over the last two years to develop the latter's wind turbine technology, combined with solar and battery technology. Vodafone and network partner Cornerstone will now conduct a proof of concept to install the Crossflow technology on rural mobile sites.
