Chinese brand Xiaomi has announced the official launch of its product range in Spain to be followed this weekend by its first bricks and mortar stores in the country. The company’s flagship Mi Mix 2 smartphone will be available for EUR 499 for the 6GB RAM and 64GB storage version, with the Android One-powered Mi A1 keenly priced at EUR 229 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage model. Other handsets available will include the Redmi 4A and 4X, the Redmi Note 4, 5A and 5A Prime as well as the Mi 6. Xiaomi will also be selling a full portfolio of accessories and peripherals, including devices from its Mi Ecoystem range, including the Mi Box 4K Android set-top box, Mi Action Camera 4K, Mi Electric Scooter and Mi Band 2.
Two ‘Mi Store’ spaces will be opened in Madrid, one in the La Vaguada shopping centre and another in the giant Xanadu mall in Arroyomolinos in the capital's southern periphery. Xiaomi’s products will also be available to buy at a dedicated online store as well as via Amazon Spain, Media Markt, Phone House and Carrefour.
The company has ambitious plans to expand further into Western Europe but is looking to first consolidate its Spanish operation, according Wang Xiang, the senior VP responsible for Xiaomi’s international business. “In order to be focused, we want to make Spain successful first. And then we can think of other markets and countries,” Xiang told The Verge, adding that “we want to learn from the customers about the taste of European people.”
